Soundtrack: Crack Mayor

Accustomed to squishy topics like free health care and maple syrup grand theft, Canada has had the metaphorical rug pulled out from under its wonderland of fluff. Thanks to Gawker Media, you can no longer say “maple leaf” without thinking “Toronto Mayor Rob Ford smokes crack.”

Earlier this month, the snarky news outlet alleged that video footage exists, clearly showing the politician smoking crack cocaine. Since then Gawker has made it their personal crusade to expose the footage to the world, launching “Rob Ford Crackstarter,” a crowdsourced campaign to raise $200,000 in order to buy the video from its mysterious owner.

As you can imagine, this series of events has created quite a stir across the northern border, not to mention around the world. It even made for an amazing segment on “The Daily Show with John Stewart.”

Currently, Gawker has the funds needed to buy the video, but claims the transaction is shady due to a rightly scared seller. Meanwhile, Mayor Ford is denying everything and won’t resign. The situation is causing a major fuss in day-to-day proceedings.

Naturally, this inspired us to make a playlist. Please enjoy the tunes while this bureaucratic tomfoolery gets sorted out.
