Out magazine, which focuses mainly on the fashion, entertainment, and lifestyle of gay men and women, has just released their annual Out 100 list. Winning the Entertainer of the Year award is Wanda Sykes. And American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert took the prize for Breakout Star.
On dealing with his newfound fame, Adam says: “I’m doing the best I fucking can, you know? I’m the same guy doing the same thing on a larger scale. I’ve always been an entertainer. I’ve lived in L.A. for eight years. It’s about making a good TV show. I just wanted to be really careful that it didn’t turn into a fucking pageant. I can sing my face off. All this other stuff is part of a personality, a persona.”
Lambert says he’s been comfortable with being out and gay since he was 18, and it wasn’t until pictures of him surfaced kissing another man that he had to explain himself for the first time. “I was like, ‘Great, that’s gonna fuck things up.’ It was the first time since I’d come out of the closet at 18 that I had to think about it. I didn’t want to acknowledge it as a mistake or something I was ashamed of—I’m not. It’s part of who I am, but because our nation is the way it is, it’s an announcement. If I lose some fans, fuck it. I need to be happy too.”
Adam seems happy enough now! He just ended his relationship with boyfriend Drake LaBry, and is focusing on being single. He’s also been spotted this week working on his new music video for his single “For Your Entertainment.” And it should be a pretty outrageous video!
