Amy Winehouse was always close to her father Mitch. He tried to help her get clean on numerous occasions, but to no avail. Now that she’s passed, he wants to make sure her name lives on, but not just for her music.
Mitch has announced plans to set up a foundation in Amy’s name to help those struggling with addiction to drugs and alcohol.
During Amy’s funeral he spoke about those who lacked the finances and resources to seek treatment. He said Amy had "conquered" her drug addiction but had been "trying hard to deal with her drinking."
He added, “If you cannot afford a private rehabilitation clinic, there is a two-year waiting list for help.”
The idea has already received backing from the MP Keith Vaz, who said, "I am very happy to help Mitch in any way I can with his important campaign to help rehabilitate those most vulnerable in our society.”
What a great way to keep Amy’s memory alive. Mitch still has a long way to go before the foundation is up and running, but we’ll make sure to keep you guys updated on the progress.
