The toxicology results are in and it looks like no illegal substances or drugs were found in Amy Winehouse's body when she died. The popular theory behind her death was that of a drug overdose. It seemed obvious because she suffered from drug addiction for so many years and showed signs of erratic behavior during a show in Belgrade recently, which everyone assumed was because of her drug abuse.
The toxicology results did reveal that she had alcohol in her body, but it's not known if it caused her death.
Her family released a statement today, "Toxicology results returned to the Winehouse family by authorities have confirmed that there were no illegal substances in Amy's system at the time of her death. Results indicate that alcohol was present but it cannot be determined as yet if it played a role in her death."
This must be a sigh of relief for the family, as everyone has quickly dismissed Amy's death as a result of her drug use, which slightly taints her memory. The family is currently waiting to find out what exactly was the cause of death, and the results are expected on October 26th, 2011.
"The family would like to thank the police and coroner for their continuing investigations and for keeping them informed throughout the process. They await the outcome of the inquest in October," says the statement.
Some reports were saying that she died as a result of quitting drinking cold turkey. Winehouse's family claimed she had been sober and they speculated that the withdrawal killed her. Amy's father Mitch commented that "Three years ago, Amy conquered her drug dependency. She was trying hard to deal with her drinking and had just completed three weeks of abstinence."
There are so many rumors circulating surrounding her death, her "friend" Tony Azzopardi says he went with her the night before she passed away to buy $2,000 worth of drugs. Who knows what's true anymore.
Her passing is a mystery until the results arrive from the cause of death inquest. But what we do know is that one of her last recordings before her untimely death is a duet with Tony Bennett.
Amy and Tony recorded their own version of "Body and Soul" back in March for his second collection of duets titled, "Duets II." The album is due in stores on September 20 and is being touted as Amy's final recording. There were rumors that her unreleased material that she began recording for her third album would be released as a posthumous album. However, those rumors were squashed when the duet with Tony Bennett was announced.
