When Amy Winehouse was pronounced dead last month her fans were quick to point fingers. Some blamed her friends and some blamed her drug dealers and most of her fans were quick to place blame on her ex husband Blake Fielder-Civil.
Blake reportedly got Amy hooked on hard drugs and she was a pretty big mess when they were together. He was eventually sent to prison and her family tried to get her clean. After several failed rehab stints she was found dead in her London home in July.
But now her father Mitch is speaking out about Blake’s involvement in her drug habit, saying he doesn’t blame Blake entirely.
"I blame him for a lot of things. He started her on the road to hard drugs," he said in an interview with the UK Sun. "But her death was a horrible accident. It was her responsibility. She was told that if she detoxed without medical intervention, this whole thing could happen. He started her off on the road to drugs. But I don't blame him for her death."
He continued: "She had seizures because she would binge drink and then stop. She had one in a hotel room in New York once when she was on Skype to a friend. She conked out in front of him. I had to ring hotel security and they rushed in there.
"She had that history. We won't know until the outcome of the inquest, but that's what we suspect was the cause."
Blake is currently serving 32 months in prison on burglary and a firearms charge. He’s reportedly been penning a tell-all about Amy, something Mitch isn’t too thrilled about. He’s been caught smuggling drugs so many times while in prison, he’s probably too high to complete the book, but if he does, Mitch wants the proceeds donated to charity.
"We have been criticized for not letting Blake and his parents be a part of it," the 60-year-old said. "But I'm not aware they have been in touch. He can't be part of the foundation, because we'd be a laughing stock. But if he wants to make a donation, we'll take it.
Silly Mitch, the proceeds are going to go towards his heroin addiction. He’s pretty much wasting his breath asking a drug addict to donate his money to charity. Sadly, the money is going straight into his veins.
"Amy had left Blake and was going to spend four days with friends. He turned up, brought drugs and ruined everything. Then his family came and there was a big fight," he told the paper. "We did agree on one thing, and that was to send them to rehab.”
Mitch added: "The start of her recovery was when he went to prison."
Hopefully Blake will learn from Amy’s mistakes and try to get clean.
