The American rapper from Harlem is on the verge of releasing her new mixtape, and today we get a taste of another track.
Azealia Banks has released “Neptune” from Fantasea. The song she has shared is a four-minute bouncy, fast-rhyming hymn, consistent to what we’ve come to expect from her act.
She shared her feelings about the album release on Twitter.
“I tried a lot of cool things... Sounds I thought were progressive, beats made by close friends, different flowsss,” she said.
Neptune starts with a synthesized harp and a lyrical pattern with a little Caribbean flare, before cutting into her now iconic quick verse.
“I, I, I’m… Alright, ight, ight, ight… / Tonight, ight, ight… Alrigh, ight, ight, babe… ”
It’s original choices like this that helped Banks secure the New Style Icon honor at the 2012 Billboard Awards.
Featured on the “Neptune” are the British-accented locals of Shystie, an acclaimed rapper-songwriter from the UK. This is Banks and Shystie’s first collaboration. The mixtape features a range of 19 different tracks. “Neptune” is the second song on the track list. Other songs continue the minimalist effort with titles like “Fierce,” “Chips,” “Runnin,’” and “Luxury.”
“Aquababe,” the mixtape’s 12th track, was released earlier this month.
“Fantasea is almost kind of a first album of sorts….but it happened by mistake…. It’s weird,” tweeted Banks.
As the release’s reworked spelling alludes, the cover art of the album has an aquatic theme. On the cover, a two-headed, busty mermaid, holds a pair of basketball sized pearls. (Yes, I’m talking about the jewelry kind!)
After delaying the initial release attempt, which was scheduled for July 4th, Fantasea will instead become available late Wednesday, July 11th.
“Lololololol I hope you guys like it! I’m nervoussssss,” she wrote.
From the sounds of it so far, Azealia, you don’t have anything to worry about.
