Beastie Boy Adam Yauch Diagnosed With Cancer

Sad news to report. Beastie Boy Adam Yauch has been diagnosed with cancer. A label rep announced the news today, saying, "Adam "MCA" Yauch of Beastie Boys was diagnosed last week as having a cancerous tumor in his left parotid (salivary) gland.

Luckily it was caught early and is localized in one area, and as such is considered very treatable. It will however require surgery and several weeks of additional treatment."

As a result, the Beastie Boys have cancelled their upcoming shows, and the release of their next album has been pushed back. Yauch made a video for his fans, recalling when and how he found out he had cancer.

He told them, "About two months ago, I started feeling this little lump in my throat, like you would feel if you have swollen glands or something like that, like you'd feel if you have a cold, so I didn't really think it was anything.”

He continued, "I just need to take a little time to get this in check, and then we'll release the record and play some shows. It's a pain in the neck (sorry had to say it) because I was really looking forward to playing these shows, but the doctors have made it clear that this is not the kind of thing that can be put aside to deal with later."

Yauch does not estimate how long the tour will be delayed, but he apologizes to "anyone who's made plans" to come to the shows. We’re so glad Adam caught it when he did. We wish him a full and speedy recovery! Watch Yauch’s full announcement below:
