Beyoncé’s New Single Sends Mixed Messages

“Bow down, bitches.”

Queen Bey has spoken. The hip-hop empress has somehow jacked her crop-burning crusade into an even higher gear. A track by the name of “Bow Down / I Been On” arrived on Beyoncé’s blog.

Along with the surprisingly looming track comes album artwork: a young Beyoncé in her natural environment—surrounded by trophies.

Only about a minute of the 3:34-length release features the pop songstress’ vocals. The rest yields mega-produced Hit-Boy stylings.

What remains to be seen, however, is whether or not this is actually the first single off her next album.

MTV relays fan reactions like “queen b is snatching wigs.....this is a warning shot.....can't wait for the new album” and “Can we just talk about how Beyoncé sang opera & rapped in one song?”

As some outlets have guessed, the song seems to be some sort of experiment, splicing together samplings from two different songs: part “Bow Down,” part “I Been On.”

But that doesn’t mean that the new Bey-solo arrival—the first since her album 4 in 2011—hasn’t set off media alarms. Listen up, kids!
