Beyonce and Other Celebrities Remember Etta James

Beyonce played Etta James in the flick “Cadillac Records,” she also performed Etta’s classic song “At Last” at Obama’s inauguration in 2009, so the huge Etta James fan and divalicious singer has released this official statement about Etta’s passing.

“I am so fortunate to have met such a queen. Her musical contributions will last a lifetime. She is one of the greatest vocalists of our time,” says Beyonce.

Beyonce may be a big fan, but the feeling wasn’t mutual. Back in 2009 when Beyonce sang “At Last” for President Obama, Etta famously slammed her performance, saying, “That woman he had singing for him, singing my song…she’s going to get her ass whipped.”

Ouch, Etta James didn’t even know who Beyonce was. However, proving you can’t keep Beyonce down, and also that Beyonce is super gracious, even if her idol isn’t pleased with her performance, Beyonce had even more kind words for the late singer.

“Playing Etta James taught e so much about myself, and singing her music inspired me to be a stronger artist. When she effortlessly opened her mouth, you could hear her pain and triumph. Her deeply emotional way of delivering a song told her story with no filter. She was fearless, and had guts. She will be missed,” writes Beyonce.

Snoop Dogg simply tweeted, “R.I.P ETTA JAMES.”

Kelly Rowland of Destiny’s Child fame wrote, “CLASSIC. ONE OF A KIND. PURE SOULD. ETTA JAMES! Thank You for gracing us with your incredible talent & presence!”

Kings of Leon drummer Nathan Followill writes, “RIP Etta James. One of the greatest voices of all time. Thanks for the many romantic moments your music created.”

According to LeAnn Rimes, “RIP to the wonderfully soulful Etta James. You will always be in our heart & on our radios. What a voice, a sad loss.”
