Forget the 16 Grammy Awards, multiple Artist of the Year honors, and all the charting albums and songs since 2003 for just a moment. Beyoncé is winning a new kind of award.
The New York chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists is awarding Beyonce with first-place in the category of the arts & entertainment for magazine journalism. The award is an honor of a story she wrote for Essence magazine.
Seriously, is there no end to her raw talent?
Beyoncé’s article, titled “Eat, Pray, Love,” first appeared in the July 2011 issue of Essence Magazine. It is a first person account, looking back on her demanding career and how the artist – now probably one of the most recognizable people in the music industry - came to be. The article recalls her roots, growing up around the rodeo and the family’s annual trips the Houston Livestock Show that she held sacred.
The magazine piece also offers insight into Beyoncé’s unexpected vacation from the music scene, when she spent nine months traveling the world in search of herself.
A ceremony to honor the singer will take place on May 15 at the association’s Scholarship and Awards Banquet in New York.
Beyoncé’s last studio album, 4, was released for in the summer of 2011 and is available now in record stores everywhere.
