Beyonce proves that she is the greatest female pop star in the world right now.
Queen B is the first female singer to headline the main stage at Britain’s famous Glastonbury festival which is known to be the biggest rock festival in the world (attention hipsters: Glastonbury is Coachella on crack). Past headliners include Radiohead, Coldplay, The Killers, so Beyonce as a female pop R&B vocalist is a new territory for the British festival.
Beyonce proves that it is indeed girls “who run the world.” She tells the BBC, “I am the first woman to ever headline the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury. Unbelievable. I didn’t even know that. I was just told that two days ago. I’m so honored that I am the chosen woman.”
The venue was huge however, even a diva like B was nervous, “I don’t normally do festivals of 175,000 people. I was very nervous and everyone gave me so much love and I will never forget this.”
It may have been Beyonce’s husband Jay-Z who paved the way for this opportunity when he headlined the festival in 2008 as the first hip-hop act to do so. This time Jay-Z proudly watched from the first row as Beyonce put a fierce spin on King’s of Leon’s “Sex on Fire,” sang her signature cover of Etta James “At last” and did a Destiny’s Child medley.
Beyonce thanked her audience, “I always wanted to be a rock star, and tonight we are all rock stars…I still can’t believe I’m performing at Glastonbury.”
