During Monday night’s “Battle Round” episode of The Voice, Blake Shelton let go of country wannabe Gwen Sebastian, but even though she’s no longer on the singing competition, Sebastian just announced she’s going to join Blake Shelton’s backing band on his tour.
When one door closes, another one opens...out the side of a tour bus.
This is arguably a better gig than The Voice. Now, Sebastian is getting professional road experience. What’s the best she can hope for on The Voice? Sing her heart out each week and eventually win the show and then fade into obscurity like Javier Colon? Who’s Javier Colon? Exactly.
Shelton axed Sebastian during the Battle Round episode, because he liked her competitor Erin Willett better, but she’s still good enough to go on tour with him.
“The first time I ever heard Gwen’s voice, I knew it was something special. She has the rare ability to combine power with passion in her singing abilities,” Shelton said in a statement, “Although our journey together has ended on ‘The Voice,’ it’s just beginning in real life.”
Sebastian is already a seasoned performer, she’s got songs on iTunes.
She also released this statement, “Never in a million years would I think that this journey would lead me to be onstage with Blake. I am honored he asked me to become a part of his show and a member of his ‘road family.’”
Also joining Blake on tour is his former mentee, Dia Frampton. Not sure if she is providing backing vocals like Sebastian, or if she is his opening act, either way Shelton loves a good hand-out.
Note to future The Voice auditionees: Always go with Team Shelton. Even if you don’t win he’ll probably take you on tour with him.
