I don't know if North America and/or Britney Spears is ready for this. So there's this thing called the MTV European Music Awards, which is really just an awards ceremony to give Lady Gaga an excuse to wear more weird outifts. Anyways, there is a category called the Worldwide Act where fans voted on what regional talent should represent their country. The regional categories are Europe, Asia Pacific, Africa/India/Middle East, Latin America and North America and Britney Spears is the representative from North America.
Of all artists in Northern America, of everyone possible that could have been nominated, this award was given to Britney Spears. Let me just reiterate, anyone from the Uniter States and Canada was allowed to vote for who they wanted to represent North America in the Worldwide act category and the people choose Britney Spears. Sorry singer/songwriters and anyone with a drum kit in their parents garage, you'll never make it in this town.
Britney will go up against the other regional finalists in the category including 19-year-old Lena from Europe, K-Pop band BIGBANG, Egyptian singer Abdelfattah Grini, and Brazilian band Restart.
Fans can vote for these five finalists until November 4 and the winner of the award will be announced at the ceremony on November 6, hosted by Selena Gomez in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Britney has won two EMA's in 2008 for Album of the Year and Act of the Year. In the press release for the EMA's, Britney is described as having "weathered some very public ups and downs in her personal life, [but] today she’s triumphantly back on top of her game."
That is the most politically correct way to describe Britney Spears' meltdown. They could have also just said, remember when Britney went cray cray? And that would have sufficed. However, Britney is definitely "back on top of her game." Have you seen the video for "Criminal" yet? She wields a gun and has fake sex on screen. Bad-ass.
In other EMA news, and for many of you, the EMA's itself is news to you, the acts lined up to perform at the ceremony include Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Coldplay, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jessie J, LMFAO and Snow Patrol. Super random about the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Snow Patrol, but otherwise, that's an amazing line-up.
Presenters confirmed to appear at the event are Snooki, JWOWW and the star of that MTV show "Awkward." So yeah, I guest they spent their celebrity budget on the performances and had nothing left over for presenter fees.
The show will also honor the band Queen, who will take the stage for a special performance. I wonder who will perform the lead vocals as great as Freddie Mercury? It better not be Lady Gaga. Oh great, it's totally Lady Gaga.
