Bruno Mars "Locked Out of Heaven" Music Video

If Bruno Mars’ catchy single “Locked Out of Heaven” signifies anything, it’s that the entertainer is one idiosyncratic singer. An anachronism of our times. Also, great unwashed hair.

While the audio of the lead track from his sophomore album Unorthodox Jukebox may be channeling 1980s-era Sting and The Police, the retro-heavy video is a sweaty 1970s work out VHS basement concert video…but not creepy, promise!

Shot in warm earth tones through and through and edited in a choppy vintage style, Bruno is surrounded on stage by his band and a sea of partiers intercut with various home movie sequences of himself chilling with friends and chatting up reporters. It’s kind of like watching that Brazilian movie City of God minus all the gang warfare, class strife, and violence, so like 10% of that movie. Throughout, Bruno is but a sweaty blur fogging up the camera lens, though we have a feeling this born-and-raised Hawaii local can handle the heat.

In future news, Bruno is currently in New York City prepping for this weekend’s “Saturday Night Live” episode. The singer-songwriter is scheduled as the October 20th musical guest (expected) as well as its comedic host (unexpected). This double duty of song and comedy means he’ll join the ranks of Britney Spears, Mick Jagger, Elton John, and Jennifer Lopez. They’re musicians of pretty much every decade, so we’re sure the old-fashioned singer will fit right in.
