It’s that time of year: everyone’s announcing album drops. Lady Gaga did it with a tattoo, but Carly Rae Jepsen’s not quite so hardcore.
Instead, she posted pictures of Paul Stanly and Gene Simmons from KISS, the upside down Mary Jane-Spiderman smooch, and of her and her friends blowing a kiss to Instagram before officially announcing that her new album will be titled Kiss and will be released on September 18th.
That’s also the new album release date for Wiz Khalifa, Kreayshawn, Ne-Yo, Pink, Nelly Furtado, Mika, The Killers, P.O.S. and Ben Folds Five, so Carly will have some competition for attention.
I’m not sure if the world could or should handle another bout of “Call Me Maybe” level fan videos, but we should prepare ourselves for more brain searing songs on Kiss, anyway.
Carly, who has collaborated with fellow Canadian baby-face Justin Bieber, Owl City and Flo Rida, has also assured fans that the record won’t signal a major aesthetic shift: The record is pop,” Jepsen said in a statement, adding: ”It’s inspired by Robyn, the Cars, Madonna, and believe it or not, James Taylor.”
The Billboard 100 dominating artist will be working with producers Josh Ramsay, Matthew Koma, Max Martin, Dallas Austin, LMFAO’s Redfoo and Toby Gad on the new album, which she’s also very excited about:
“These are lyric and song ideas that I have been collecting over the years. I can’t tell you how lucky I feel to be able to collaborate with some of my dream producers. It has been the most fulfilling experience.”
After the release, Jepsen will start her tour with Justin Bieber on September 29th.
