Carly Rae Jepsen must be sooooo relieved she’s finally being allowed to sing other songs than just…that one. And it shows in this recent performance!
Carly took to Ellen this week for her new song “This Kiss”—singing her first solo single since “Call Me Maybe” on the daytime talk show that also staged her American TV debut six months ago.
I know it’s hard to look right at her, baby, when she isn’t singing “It’s hard to look right at you, baby,” but I promise it’s her, you guys. It takes some getting used to, but just squint a little and you’ll be able to recognize Carly moving her lips to lyrics other than “Call Me Maybe.”
While the ultra-1980s school dance pop vibe of “This Kiss” is real cute and charming, it doesn’t sound anywhere as catchy as her first track. Good news is that when she sings live she sounds identical to the studio record, so it shows off a little more of her vocal chops.
It may not be destined to give her another 9.1 million selling Billboard number one, but that’s not slowing the Canadian singer-songwriter down one bit. Her new album is out this week and has a duet with Justin Bieber and those sort of teen dream collaborations don’t just sail by unnoticed.
Watch the performance in the video below. Do you want to make out with “This Kiss” as much as you did with “Call Me Maybe”?
