Carly Rae Jepsen is having another career moment this week.
Her brand new album, the American debut Kiss, hit record store shelves on Tuesday and the 26-year-old could barely contain her excitement at the release party at Bootsy Bellows.
Stereotude caught up with the “Call Me Maybe” singer on the red carpet to talk about the album, the night’s festivities, and how lucky she feels in the middle of all of it. The Canadian sensation is so sweet in the video you could just lean through your computer screen and kiss her here:
Her second solo single off the album, “This Kiss,” was co-written by Jepsen with LMFAO’s Stefan Kendal Gordy and her boyfriend Matthew Koma and is a sugary light-hearted pop addition to radio’s otherwise more bouncy and dubstep heavy current mainstays like Justin Bieber’s “As Long As You Love Me.”
Carly discreetly revealed to us that she was to take the stage with Justin to kick off the party—and her opening gigs on his upcoming “Believe” tour.
“I don’t know if I’m giving away too many secrets, but I can slip that I will be performing the duet with Justin in his set later on in the night as well as gearing up for our own performance of the whole album,” Carly tells Stereotude exclusively, “We’ve been dreaming big with the costumes and the lighting and a whole bunch of little surprises, so I think it’s going to be an amazing show.”
As for other collaborations, it was a “tough question,” but a dream partnership would be with James Taylor, says the teen singer, in reference to her songwriting roots.
“You know, I grew up with the sound of James Taylor in my household. My dad was always playing him on guitar, so in a very nostalgic way, I think I would one day do a duet with him.”
When asked how it feels to debut her long-awaited album, the gifted singer tells us, "I'm walking around on a little cloud feeling luckier than any person deserves to be."
