Did Carly Rae Jepsen and Justin Bieber Steal One Direction's Lyrics?

“It’s hard to look right / At these lyrics, baby!” is the tune critics claim Carly Rae Jepsen and Justin Bieber are singing lately.

When their much-anticipated duet, “Beautiful,” leaked online earlier this week, fans of One Direction have been comparing the single to the boy band’s smash “What Makes You Beautiful.”

Exhibit A: Carly Rae Jepsen and Justin Bieber

What makes you beautiful is that you don’t know how beautiful you are to me
You’re trying to be perfect
Nobody’s perfect
But you are to me
You try to take my breath away
Feel the words that I don’t say

Exhibit B: One Direction

You don’t know you’re beautiful
If only you saw what I can see
You’ll understand why I want you so desperately
Right now I’m looking at you and I can’t believe
You don’t know
Oh oh
You don’t know you’re beautiful
Oh oh
That’s what makes you beautiful

I don’t know you guys, but this sounds pretty unoriginal on both sides—something tells me Adele didn’t exactly write these songs. They’re more along the margins of something you could find scrawled in the Tumblrs of any pre-teen. It’s pop music for the masses—not exactly contenders for the Pulitizer Prize for poetry any time soon.

Do you think that One Direction has another lawsuit on their hands? The UK boys just settled a lawsuit against an American band with the same name and won the legal dispute to keep their name. Apparently the US boyband had to change their name to Uncharted Shores.

What do all you Judge Judys think? Is One Direction going to have to sue Justin Bieber and Carly Rae or will they just duke it out Chris Brown/Drake style at the club!?
