The 40th American Music Awards announced some new additions to their already heavy hitting line up of star performers today. The inclusion of Carrie Underwood, P!nk, and Pitbull is a concise trio (country, pop/rock, Latin/dance) of the comprehensive variety of genres the AMAs celebrate year after year.
They join previously announced performers Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, Linkin Park, and Christina Aguilera who’ll also rock the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live stage on Sunday, November 18 on ABC.
These six artists and one group will do their best to round out the three-hour long telecast that appears to have a premium on female talent this year. Of the seven acts, five are strong lady singers, while on the nominations end Rihanna and Nicki are the leaders of the pack holding down four nods. Following closely behind with three nominations to each of their names are the all-male likes of Justin Bieber, One Direction, Usher, Maroon 5, and Drake.
A new shake up on the category side is the inclusion of an electronic dance music category to reflect its growing prominence in the mainstream and infiltration of the Billboard charts these past couple years, and 2011/2012 especially.
In true democratic fashion, it’s an election year for the AMAs, where fans vote for the winners in online voting. Make sure you candidate wins. It’s a privilege to see your fav accept an AMA on the stage!
