Carrie Underwood's Album Debuts at No. 1

Carrie Underwood is on top again! The country crooner’s new album Play On has hit No. 1 this week with 318,000 copies sold. This makes her the No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200. Last week’s winner, Michael Jackson’s This Is It, dropped off to 196,000 for a No. 2 finish.

Play On is the largest sales week for an album by a woman in 2009 and the second-best sales week for a country release. She’s beat out only by Rascal Flatts' Unstoppable, which debuted at No. 1 with 351,000 copies sold.

This is Carrie’s second album to top the Billboard 200, after her sophomore album sold 527,000 in 2007. Underwood's debut album Some Hearts started at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 in 2005 and at No. 1 on Top Country Albums with 315,000.

Carrie will co-host the CMA Awards tonight with Brad Paisley. She’s up for Female Vocalist of the year, and Brad leads the nominations list with seven CMA nods, including Entertainer of the Year, Male Vocalist, and Album of the Year, Single of the Year, Song of the Year, Video, and Musical Event of the Year.

Tune in to the awards at 8PM tonight on CBS.
