Yep, we have an openly gay country singer. This just proves times are changing, we’re evolving, and society is more tolerant. Next thing you know, we’ll have a straight Broadway singer.

In May of last year, country crooner Chely Wright came out as a lesbian. And if you think that most country aficionados are closed-minded hicks, you’re right. Chely’s admission resulted in death threats. Wright said:

“My life has been threatened. I get nasty letters every day, 'I'm through with you Chely Wright, you're going to hell.’”

Wright continued that the only public support she received from her fellow country stars was Mary Chapin Carpenter.
