Cheryl Cole released the music video for her single “Call My Name” in the hopes that this offering might be her path to a US breakthrough.
The song is produced by Calvin Harris, the genius behind Rihanna’s “We Found Love” so hopefully this track will serve her well on the Billboard chart. That being said, the video is a little disappointing.
For starters, the video takes place in the reservoir tunnels of Los Angeles, arguably the most popular location for any and all music videos. That being said, it’s a terribly un-sexy place to set a music video. Like, hey, wanna get down with the sewage? No thank you.
The video opens up with a quote by Marquis De Sade, “The only way to a woman’s heart is along the path of torment.”
Anyways, the intro to the video features Cole sashaying around the gritty underworld of the LA "river" and flashing some serious upper thigh, so I’m expecting this to be one of those sexy bump and grind-type clips, then the beat drops and Cole, clad in some MC hammer-style harem pants, starts busting out some 80’s inspired hip-hop moves.
Again, I’m left wondering, uhhhh ok?
The video walks a line between an instructional workout video and a dirrrty pop video.
The song is called “Call My Name” and at the end of the chorus, Cole sings out, “Say my name baby." I can't help but be reminded of the Destiny’s Child classic “Say My Name.” It’s a slight variation, but Beyonce, Kelly, and Michelle just did it so much better.
