Put your spacesuits on, readers… It’s time to take off into David Guetta’s video project.
The DJ’s new video “I Can Only Imagine” featuring Chris Brown and Lil Wayne has finally arrived. And if you find yourself asking “What took so long?” go ahead and bite your tongue. This video is truly revolutionary.
Take away Guetta’s fast dance beats and Chris Brown’s even faster dance moves and I’m pretty sure you have the set of Tron. Not to mention all of the visual effects the video employs to bring it to a whole new level.
“I Can Only Imagine” starts with Guetta slow-mo walking down a blue-lit spaceship tunnel toward the camera. The French EDM-er takes his place in front of his live setup. Only one thing is it’s all virtual…
Guetta spins CGI’d turntables and taps a neon grid that appears out of thin air all around him. Meanwhile, Brown dances down the aforementioned hallway with an Iron Man mask on. A futuristic jetpack appears on his back.
Later on we see Brown and Guetta doing gravity-less backflips down a bright corridor. Weezy raps to a spinning camera. In the background, skateboarders ride up and down glowing mini-ramp.
Then comes a virtual dance floor straight out of a video game. Brown leads a highly choreographed dance number as the ground lights up accordingly. And the whole thing floats in a space.
“I Can Only Imagine” was directed by Colin Tilley. If that name sounds familiar, that’s because he’s also directed countless videos from other groundbreaking acts including Usher, Justin Timberlake, Wiz Khalifa, Diddy, and Justin Bieber including his mega-popular “Boyfriend” video.
There are too many big names that Tilley has covered and too much awesomeness to get to about this video. Do yourself a favor… Just stop listening to me talk about it and check it out yourself.
“I Can Only Imagine” is available on Guetta’s fifth studio album Nothing but the Beat.
