Chris Brown's 'Fortune' Album Slammed By Critics

It’s no F.A.M.E

Despite all the hype leading up to Breezy's new album release, Fortune is not getting quite the reaction the singer was hoping for. In fact, critics are pretty much condemning it.

Chris Brown’s album Fortune was officially released on June 29th and people are tasting what the R&B innovator has brought to the table on LP number five. Unfortunately it’s a little sour…

Brown is getting a lot of hate from reviewers of respected outlets, who are quick to denounce the new material. Along with the collective hate, headlines are describing the album with adjectives like “safe” and “patchy.”

‘Fortune’ is a familiar mix of electro-pop, dance and R&B,” said Washington Post writer Sarah Godfrey.

The reviewer describes “Till I Die” as the strongest track on the album for its R&B roots. For Godfrey, other tracks simply fail to live up and are “more genre-compartmentalized.”

Time magazine has dubbed the album as “boring” and another wirter Mesfin Fekadu agrees the release lacks depth.

“When Brown opens up, he's the best version of himself. Unfortunately, there aren't enough of those songs to make 'Fortune' ... a must have,” wrote Fekadu.

Other sources simply find the album’s efforts laughable like Chicago Times writer Thomas Conner.

“Finally, a Tom Haverford record!" Conner jokes. "This is not a hilarious New Jack parody by the “Parks & Recreation” sitcom character. It’s Chris Brown’s actual album. Nonetheless, it’s still hilarious.”

Ouch…

F.A.M.E. debuted at the number one spot on the Billboard 200 chart in 2011. If this critical response is any indication of Fortune’s first week performance, Breezy will have a hard time matching the numbers that he's used to have come easy.
