Christina Aguilera was once one of the biggest pop stars in the music industry, but lately it seems she’s lost a lot of her star power.
Xtina’s latest album Bionic has sold only about 200,000 copies since its release five weeks ago, and sources say RCA execs are not happy, and going into “rescue mode.”
Page Six reports that Bionic cost millions to made and promote, but after debuting at the top of the charts, it went on to be the lowest-selling No. 1 hit in UK history.
One insider tells the paper, “She wants to compete with her peers, but there is a disconnect because, over the years, she’s been a mother and a wife, not a rocker.”
“The label has done its part, but she’s headstrong. There have been candid conversations between her and the label about connectivity, but it doesn’t seem that she’s been open to that dialogue,” said the insider.
Despite the whispers, RCA reps say there’s no truth to the story. One said Christina “is a pillar of the RCA Music Group and is an undeniable talent with one of the greatest voices of our time. She continues to push herself as an artist, and we are behind her efforts 100 percent.”
Her manager, Irving Azoff, also denies tension between his client and the label, saying, “I am the one who deals with the label, and this couldn’t be further from the truth.”
We have to say, rumor of not, this latest album definitely isn’t Christina’s best work. Maybe she should try a new sound on her next project. She is after all a mother and wife! No one expects her to be competing with Miley Cyrus right now!
