Christina Aguilera strips for the cover of W Magazine. Both figuratively and literally, she appears naked except for some wild rapunzel-esque locks, a sheet and some roses and she opens up to the magazine about her music, The Voice, and how she deals with media mishaps.
Aguilera grew up in the music industry. She says her inspiration was The Sounds Of Music, “I just watched her twirl around those mountains, and she was just so free.” Taking a cue for the Von Trapp children, she signed her first record deal at 13 and by 19 had a platinum album and was touring the world.
When media reacted to her divorce she committed to the messages she puts out in her music, “I knew there would be a negative reaction in the press to my divorce, but I am not going to live my life because of something someone might say. That goes against everything I sing on my records.”
She also jokes about forgetting the lyrics at the Superbowl. “I went to dinner after the Super Bowl with Matt and I laughed about how I’d made myself into a Trivial Pursuit question: ‘In 2011 what female singer flubbed the lyrics to the national anthem?’”
She tells the magazine her thoughts on American Idol, “It’s too mean. Why would anyone want to go on a show to be ripped apart? I don’t want to be tough with my singers, but I do want to tell them on The Voice that if you really want this, you’ll be kicked when you’re down.”
After being scrutinized in the media for forgetting the lyrics to the national anthem, getting arrested for public drunkenness and almost falling during her Grammy performance, her new job on The Voice has really helped to remind us why we care about Christina Aguilera, cuz the girl can sang.
