All aboard the S.S. Coachella!

That’s right, folks… The music festival you know and love for its California dessert locale is moving to the same place where Sheriff Brody made chum out of Spielberg’s Jaws… The Ocean!

Now that musical cruise getaways are catching on for bigger acts, a Coachella sea excursion was only a matter of time. It turns out, that time is now….

Coachella at sea is officially happening. (And no… It’s not just a LCD-fueled hallucination that a fan dreamed up while at the last Coachella.)

According to the New York Times, the music fest will take to the sea starting this December.

Like the original Coachella festival, the sea show will take up a full weekend. Bands rocking the boat for the three-day voyage this year will include acts like Pulp, Girl Talk, Hot Chip, Sleigh Bells, James Murphy (of LCD Soundsystem), and Yeasayer.

There will be over 20 performers and a total of two trips, a la the two-weekend format...

Despite all the big names signing on, it was the boat itself that pushed this concept from just a dream to a reality. And for Coachella president, Pail Tollett, they found the perfect ship.

The vessel that will house the madness is a 1,000-foot, 122,000-ton beaut. Included on the ride are a series of alcoves, a half-acre of grass, and a small theater, making its layout perfect for simultaneous musical presentations.

Rightly so, with all the guest celebrity attendees, it is dubbed the Celebrity Silhouette. The boat will be able to house 2,800 lucky fans each way.

Cruises will all leave out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. (Right next the where senior citizens are lining up for their retirement getaway.)

Tickets will range from $500 to $9,000 per person. Those prices will include shows, lodging, and food. The prices will not include bar tabs or plane tickets to the docks.
