Before there was Justin Bieber, there was Cody Simpson. The Australian teen has been churning out confectionary pop hits for years now and has just released new single “So Listen” that shows off a more mature side of the 15-year-old singer.
The brand new single, “So Listen” features T-Pain and sees Cody moving away from the teen heartthrob genre and into a new R&B-techno sound.
“I’m just real stoked to be releasing new music,” Cody tells Stereotude at the premiere of The Hunger Games, “I feel like this is something that a lot of people are going to enjoy. [The song has] a lot of dubstep elements to it. Its very mainstream but has this cool acoustic guitar too.”
His new sound is like a cross between Joe Jonas’s solo album “FastLife” and anything by Chris Brown. Actually, Cody Simpson is expertly treading into the R&B-dubstep territory that Chris Brown has been perfecting lately.
But Cody tells Stereotude his new sound “[is] something I don’t think I expected.”
T-pain makes his way onto the song and throws his rap skills through the auto-tune machine singing, “I’m just trying to love you/Can I get a witness?/Let the church say amen/Cause I know that you need a man.”
This song release comes just in time for US tour in support of Big Time Rush. The tour kicks off on July 5 in Ohio and wraps up in September in Oregon.
As for rumors that Cody is or isn’t dating Kardashian offspring, Kylie Jenner, Cody says they are just friends. He doesn’t have time to date in young Hollywood.
“Focusing on the music at the moment,” says Cody, “Want to stay focused and get established as an artist before I start getting caught up in everything else.”
