Coldplay Admits to Experimenting With Drugs

Chris Martin recently admitted that he and the band have experimented with “alcohol and drugs.” Though, I don’t know how much experimenting you can do with alcohol. That’s been tried, tested, and the results came back: it’s awesome.
"Success and fame, alcohol and drugs. We've been through all of those things. They're just pitfalls, and that comes from a lot of traveling and a lot of down time,” Martin said.
The band usually has a clean-cut image, so it’s a little shocking. Then again, they’re still a band, so it’s not that shocking. Coldplay just released their fifth LP, Mylo Xyloto. He recently joked that it’s not too bad “coming home to an Oscar winner.”
And speaking of his relationship, Chris has two children with Gwyneth Paltrow. Their daughter Apple is seven, and their son Moses is five. Martin said of his family life: "It's not all bad. As you get older, you have kids, but there is also a lot more sadness. Our music is reflecting that."
And one thing you can’t expect from this band is drama. "We split our songwriting credits and everything we get, we split it equally. It means when one of us is having a hard time or a problem, then we all have the best interests of each other at heart."
Oddly enough, for their latest album, the band underwent hypnosis during production. Brian Eno, the producer, insisted the band be hypnotized. Bassist Guy Berryman said:
“We're not afraid to try different things. Brian Eno brought a friend in and the four of us were playing music under hypnosis. It didn't really come to anything. You try 10 ideas and only one works. But nothing is too stupid for us."
Yet another explanation for their album's title.
Martin describes the new album as “an attempt to construct a framework—almost like a musical. We did three albums of first-person narrative, but I was reading about when The Beatles decided to switch from 'I love you' to She Loves You. You can really get a new lease on life by putting yourself in someone's head, even if it's just a way of dressing up your own feelings."
And when it comes to his performance ability, Martin says he wants to kick it up a notch:
“I saw Bruce [Springsteen] for the first time in concert two years ago, and that made me go to the gym more," he recalls. "I said, man, I thought I was giving everything in concert, but this guy's 60 and he's beating me. Then I watched Mick [Jagger] on a Stones DVD the other day and I thought, I've got to build a gym."
