The album sold 6.8 million copies worldwide according to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), which represents the recording industry across the globe.
The album won three awards at the 2009 Grammy Awards: Best Rock Album as well as Song Of The Year and Best Pop Performance by a Duo/Group for the song Viva La Vida.
