It’s easy to brush the Bee Gees under the rug. But there is no denying the tremendous effect they have had on the soul music scene.

Unfortunately, sometimes it takes a tragic loss to realize just what some groups had to offer the world.

Robin Gibb of the brother trio group passed away at 62 on Sunday after a long fight with cancer. The legend not only leaves a long track list, but also a long list of stars his music had an impact on.

Broadcaster Paul Gambaccini described Robin as a major force in Britain’s musical history.

“Robin had one of the best white soul voices ever,” said Gambaccini. “Everyone should be aware that the Bee Gees are second only to John Lennon and Paul McCartney as the most successful songwriting unit in British popular music.”

Anyone that bobbed their head to “Stayin’ Alive” in A Night at the Roxbury knows just how catchy a Bee Gee song can be. Hits like “How Deep Is Your Love,” “Jive Talkin,’” and “How Can You Mend A Broken Heart” put the group on the map in the 70’s.

The group has sold a massive 220 million records and charted 9 number one singles on US charts.

The Bee Gees also wrote hits for Barbra Streisand, Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick, Celine Dion, Destiny's Child, Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers.

Among the other celebs to express their sorrow and condolences were Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks, Brian Adams, UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, and Justin Timberlake.

"One of my idols. My heart goes out to the Gibb family in this time of sorrow," Timberlake tweeted.

Robin is survived by his wife, daughter, two sons, and the final living Bee Gee member Barry Gibb.
