Demi Lovato’s New Single is Pretty Awesome

So, Demi Lovato released a new single on Sunday and it’s exactly what your girl’s night out playlist needed.

On the heels of her last lead single “Skyscraper,” which yielded some pretty melodramatic lyrics that seemed to be taking a few too many pointers from music bestie Taylor Swift, “Heart Attack” delivers plenty of pop-power worthy of cutting a rug to.

Appearing on Ryan Seacrest Live, “The X Factor” judge spoke about her inspiration for the fun tune, the first arrival from her currently untitled forthcoming fourth LP:

“Is a song [about] I think everybody’s been in a situation where they’ve been hurt several times … other situations where I felt abandoned in my life and when you open up your heart to somebody it’s a risk. And this song is about taking that risk.”

The track’s chorus line proclaims: “You make me glow, but I cover up / Won’t let it show, so I’m / Puttin’ my defenses up / Cause I don’t wanna fall in love / If I ever did that / I think I’d have a heart attack.”

Make no mistake, though. With its hard clap downbeat, pop swells and embedded bubblegum synths, this song is an anthem to 20-something girl power that will make you want to sing right along with it… even if you’re a dude. (It’s OK, guys. We won’t tell anyone.)

If you’re a Demi fan, this is exactly what you’ve come to love about her. Perhaps even a little more finessed.
