Take us through your day, starting from when you wake up.
First thing I do when I wake up around 7 is meditate and read a few chapters from whatever book I’m on at the time. Then I brew some coffee, take my dog out and work out. By 10 I’m on to emails, updating my website scanning social media and catching up on the hard news and entertainment news of the day, making notes about what I want to talk about later that evening. Then I usually work on catching up with my mentee’s and seeing what they’re working on and assisting them on a couple things. By around 3:30 I’m off to the station when I do more rounds of the web and check out any new music that has dropped. I knock out client-related stuff like commercials and prep for any interviews I may be doing during my show. Then at 6 I start my nightly radio show. By 10 I’m finishing my show and heading to a concert or event. Usually making it home by 12 to sleep and start the day all over!
What is the best part of your job?
Getting to connect with my listeners! I love taking callers and chatting with the people who are tuned in about things going on in music and in their lives. I also love being able to land great interviews with engaging figures!
When did you get your big break?
While I was still in college I started interning at an L.A Radio station. Spinkle in a few years of paying my dues and cross-country moves to Houston and New York, and the rest is history.
What was your high school make-out song?
Hmmmmm.. probably a tie between Ginuwine’s “Differences” and Ja Rule, Vita and Lil Mo's “Put It On Me”. I used to think those songs were so romantic. Ha!
Where would you like to see yourself in five years?
I’ve thrown out the concept of the “5 year” plan. The climate that I work in is constantly and rapidly changing so 5 years is like a lifetime in this day and age. I hope to be doing lots more TV! Whatever I am doing I want it to be impactful, meaningful, and authentic. I’ll let God work out the details.
