When and how did you first decide music was your life?
It began as a hobby when I was attending high school and that hobby evolved into what I do today. I think the moment I gave up my daytime sales job was when I realized music is my life.
Who gave you your biggest break in music?
The biggest break came from Pete Tong who is a really big radio DJ in the UK. He played one of my first remixes which helped me get noticed by the rest of the world as his show is syndicated globally. He’s been a great supporter since the beginning and still is to this day, which I really appreciate.
What equipment do you use for production? What about DJing?
For production, my laptop is at the heart of the studio. Everything is plugged into it, sound card, microphones, guitars, keyboards. I also use lots of equipment from Native Instruments. Waves is my favorite plugin bundle, it has all the processing I need. For DJing, it’s pretty simple, I use 2 USB thumb drives with identical playlists on them, and they plug straight into a Pioneer CDJ setup. 4 CDJ 2000’s and a 900 mixer.
What's the toughest part of the DJ lifestyle and how do you deal with it?
The toughest part is traveling and being away from my family. I try to sleep as much as possible even though that’s not an option sometimes, and also face timing with the family is our way of keeping in touch. Thank God for technology.
How would you describe your process of creating a song from start to finish?
It’s always different. The inspiration comes from all over the place. Sometimes it’s a song I hear and it inspires me to start a new track. Other times it’s me jamming with the guitar and coming up with ideas. For me inspiration comes from everywhere.
Who has been your biggest inspiration musically?
I have many musical inspirations and it always changes depending on my mood or the project I’m working on. But, my biggest DJ inspiration is Erick Morillo.
What’s the one song you love playing in your set right now?
It’s a bootleg I made with an old remix of mine called ‘Sweet Disposition’ by Temper Trap. Another new song I love playing right now is called ‘With You’. It’s from my new album of the same name actually, coming out in November.
Who is your favorite up and coming artist right now?
There are so many great emerging artists right now it’s hard to pick one. To be honest, I’ve been in my bubble for the last year creating the new album and the film so I haven’t been listening to as much new music.
What’s the one food you always include in your rider?
Where do you see electronic music going in the next 5 years?
I really hope to see electronic music grow to a more musical and melodic place.
