Donna Summer passed away this morning after loosing a battle with cancer. She was 63-years-old.

Before her untimely death, Donna Summers had been in the studio working on her comeback.

On April 19, 2012 she released to iTunes a hip-hop track with rapper O’Mega Red. O’Mega Red is actually Donna Summer’s nephew.

The song is called “Angel” and features Donna Summer’s soaring vocals on the chorus where she sings “Angel, I’m your angel. Angels watching over you.”

It’s a sad, yet fitting tribute to the disco songstress.

The song “Angel” reminds me of Tupac’s famous song “Changes.” It’s a mid-tempo and softer introspective look at life as told through a rap song.

The song “Angel” is currently available to purchase on iTunes.

This new song wasn’t the only thing Summer had been working on. It appears she was maybe staging a comeback.

During June of 2011, Summer was a guest judge on the Bravo songwriting show “Platinum Hit.”
