Ellie Goulding has been singing the I-get-so-lonely blues lately.
Despite receiving much critical praise for a song currently riding the Billboard Hot 100 charts, the “Lights” singer reveals to Culture magazine that she still feels very isolated, saying, “If someone asked me what emotion I felt the most it would be loneliness.”
The 25-year-old is in a relationship with dubstep deejay Skrillex, but because of their divergent careers, they spend the majority of their time apart, getting together as often as possible.
“My boyfriend travels around the world constantly, we see each other maybe once a month,” the English singer-songwriter says. “So there's that, but there's also the loneliness of feeling you're the only person who can do things the way you want to do them.”
It’s a crushing feeling that has translated over while recording her new studio album Halcyon.
“I can be in a room with a bunch of friends and still feel pretty alone. I think I've always been like that, though.”
It’s all very Emo Goulding and should make for some great music.
Over the weekend, the singer also confirmed the track list for her forthcoming record and it’s overwrought with these sentiments.
1. Don't Say A Word
2. My Blood
3. Anything Could Happen
4. Only You
6. Figure 8
8. Hanging On
10. I Know You Care
12. Dead in the Water
Don’t you just want to like, hug her? The irony of all this artist’s anguish is how excited it makes us for the US release of her album on October 9.
