Eminem is officially $3 million dollars richer. The rapper headlined the V Festival in Weston Park, Staffordshire in England on Saturday and Chemsford, Essex on Sunday night and banked $3.3 million dollars for just two concerts. Slim shady’s bank account just got hefty.
He was reportedly paid over $1.5 million dollars for each performance because fans were desperate to see him in action.
But he was worth every penny. He played a 25-track set for 90 minutes, which included some of his old hits ‘My Name Is’ and ‘The Real Slim Shady’. And Em isn’t your typical Britney Spears lip-sync auto-tune type of artist—he actually performs live.
Rihanna also hit the stage with Eminem to perform their duet "Love The Way You Lie” and reportedly pocketed six figures. Not too shabby!
Em was also recently named the ‘King of Hip Hop’ by Rolling Stone magazine. The magazine ranked 20 solo rappers (no groups) who have dropped albums within from 2009 to July of 2011. They looked at album sales, rankings on the R&B, Hip-Hop and Rap charts as well as YouTube views, concert sales and critics' ratings. They left no stone unturned. And Eminem came out on top.
“One-fourth of those albums sold digitally, making it the first album in history to sell more than a million non-physical copies, a mark it crossed just last month,” reports Rolling Stone.
Believe it or not Eminem had the best selling album in the U.S. in 2010 with ‘Recovery’, which was loved by fans and praised by critics. He’s undoubtedly one of the most talented artists of our time. Jay-Z may have been named the 'Cash King' by Forbes magazine, but King of Hip Hop is also a pretty sweet title to have.
“Thanks to his two latest chart-topping albums, 2009's Relapse and 2010's Recovery, the man otherwise known as Slim Shady sold more than two and a half times the number of albums as the second-ranked Lil Wayne during our survey period,” says Rolling Stone.
During Eminem’s performance at the V festival some young women actually fainted and had to be transported out by medical professionals. I haven’t heard of someone fainting at a concert since the Michael Jackson days. Remember those?
