Eminem Opens Up About Drugs, T.I. and Lil Wayne

Guess who’s back….Shady’s back. Eminem sure does know how to make a grand entrance back into the rap world. Last week he debuted a music video depicting countless celebrities in a particularly unflattering way. But he definitely got everyone talking about him again!

Eminem also gave his first interview to XXL magazine, in which he opened up about his drug addiction, and what he thinks of the state of hip hop.

If you hadn’t noticed, Eminem has been missing from the music scene for three years. What you may not have known was that he was battling drug addiction. He tells the magazine, “I wasn’t ready mentally. I wasn’t ready to give up the drugs. I didn’t really think I had a problem… I spent the next three years struggling with it.”

Besides the drugs, Eminem also lost his best friend Proof, who was shot to death in 2006, which was really hard for him to deal with.

He says, “I just went into such a dark place that, with everything, the drugs, my thoughts, everything. And the more drugs I consumed, and it was all depressants I was taking, the more depressed I became.”

Despite his absence, Eminem says he still stayed on top of what was going on in the rap scene, and said he didn’t approve until very recently. He says in the interview, “I stayed up on the music, and obviously I watch TV and saw what was going on. And without naming any names, it just felt like hip-hop was going downhill.”

“You know, in them three years, it was like everybody just cares about the hook and the beat; nobody really cares about substance. But with this new T.I. album, with this new Lil Wayne album of recent, it seems like things are looking a lot better now.”

It seems like Eminem has come a long way in these three years. We’re happy to see him back! His single We Made You is available on iTunes this week and the album Relapse comes out on May 17th.
