If we're talking Spanish language covers of rap songs, you've come to the right place.
Enrique Iglesias heard Lil Wayne's hit single "How to Love" and loved the song so much he wanted to cover the song himself AND do it all in Spanish.
If you haven't heard "How to Love" yet, I'm going to assume you are deaf or were raised by raccoons, regardless, "How To Love" is not a rap. It's actually a pseudo ballad where Weezy kind of sings on the track. So yah, Enrique putting his spin on the ballad will probably be a perfect fit. Since Weezy's singing voice sounds more like growling into a broken air conditioner, I'm actually very interested to hear what that song sounds like with actual singing.
Enrique's version is called "Como Amar" and came up with the idea to remix the song when he worked with "How To Love" producer Detail.
"I played the song for Enrique. I've been in the studio working on Enrique's album and I played it. He loved the song so much he wanted to do a Spanish translation," Detail told MTV News.
Iglesias's publicist confirmed that he is doing the Spanish cover.
Detail said he doesn't speak any Spanish, but the producer and the singer made it work, "I don't know Spanish, but I had a couple of woman that speak Spanish, and we ended up working it out," Detail said, "Enrique changed a couple of words to make it work for what he does, and it was a great situation. It was a great opportunity for two worlds to come together."
Weezy thinks "How To Love" is the greatest song he's ever made and that it gives him "goose bumps." But then again, Weezy probably thinks "Lollipop" was the greatest thing to happen to the candy industry. He's very confident, to put it mildly.
"When I listen to it, I get goose bumps," Weezy says of his version of the song, "And I feel like the song is gonna take me somewhere that I've never been musically."
This isn't the first time Wayne and Iglesias have collaborated. They first worked together in 2007 on the song "Push" and again last year for Enrique's "Dirty Dancer."
This is a very unexpected bromance. First it starts with Iglesias and Wayne trading rhymes and then what's next, Iglesias gets a face tattoo and starts skateboarding? Lil Wayne is a gateway drug into hoodlumery. That's not a word but I don't care!
However, it's a smart move for Iglesias to cover a Weezy song, if he does it well. Wayne almost hit the 1 million mark for first week sales for his newest album Tha Carter IV, so yah, Iglesias is remixing the best of the best.
