Enrique Iglesias has become the go-to artist for dance music lately, his club ready tracks are taking over the dance world, but remember a time when he crooned love songs and make our hearts swoon? So where’d the love go, Enrique? He says he’s still singing about, I mean, have you heard his hit, “Tonight (I’m Lovin’ You)?” Duh, he’s still singing about love.
“It’s the thing we all have in common,” says Iglesias on the subject of love, “Ninety percent of music tackles the subject because everyone – no matter how old, what religion, or what nationality – knows those feelings.”
Speaking of love, Enrique and girlfriend Anna Kournikova have been together forever, even for celebrity standards, which isn’t very long at all, but for some strange reason he brought her onstage at a show in Russia last year and called her his wife?
“It was just meant to be sweet in the moment,” he explains, “I honestly didn’t mean to confuse people. I though it’d be easier for the audience to understand than if I said, ‘my girl.’”
Right, because there is no Russian translation for “my girl” other than “My wife,” I get it, I get it.
That being said, he refuses to get married.
“I’d never really thought marriage would make a difference. Maybe it’s because I come from divorced parents, but I don’t think you love someone more because of a piece of paper. And nowadays, it’s not taboo to have kids and not be married. What makes a difference is that you’re a good parent, period.”
