Every pop star has to start somewhere and we have a feeling that pop/electro/dance artist Erika Jayne has what it takes to become the next huge pop icon.
Her singles Party People, and Pretty Mess are just a few of her singles that reached the #1 position on the Billboard Dance Track, meaning she’s got six #1 slots on the Billboard Dance Chart, putting her second only to both the Pussycat Dolls and Rihanna.
Her music sounds like Lady Gaga during the “Fame Monster” album, meets a more techno version of Britney Spears, meets Jessie and the Toy Boys, meets Kylie Minogue.
Stereotude has an exclusive interview with the artist, who is well on her way to pop stardom.
Stereotude: Did you always know you wanted to be a singer? Where did you get your start?
Erika Jayne: “I actually started performing for my family at age 3, putting on ‘shows’ in the living room. Soon after my mom put me in dance class and then children’s theater and I’ve never really wanted to do anything else.”
ST: When was the first time you heard your first song on the radio?
EJ: “It was 6am and I was lying in bed. I got up, turned on the radio and ‘Rollercoaster’ was playing. I just sat there with the biggest smile on my face. It’s such a hard feeling to explain. It’s a surreal life moment you never forget.”
ST: What is the weirdest place you’ve heard one of your songs?
EJ: “Someone sent me a video of ‘One Hot Pleasure’ being played in an internet café in Istanbul. I thought that was pretty cool.”
ST: What 3 things must you have with you at all times?
EJ: “Water, Lip Gloss & My iPhone.”
ST: What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
EJ: “I’m actually still a tom-boy and never wear makeup and heels when I’m not working. You can find me in the backyard with my dog or at the gun range or racing up and down some LA highway praying I don’t get caught.”
ST: What are some of your after-show rituals?
EJ: “My girls and I usually have a cocktail or two, laugh and carry on. Some of the best ‘shows’ have been after the real show.”
ST: Which one of your singles is your favorite?
EJ: “Probably ‘Party People’. It’s so much fun and a call to the dance floor!”
ST: What song do you love to sing in the shower?
EJ: “I actually watch TV in the shower, mostly the news. Gotta stay up to date on world events.”
