Former Fleetwood Mac guitarist Bob Welch was found dead inside his Nashville home earlier today.
TMZ has reported that Welch had been suffering from undisclosed health issues as of late. According to the local police, Welch shot himself in the chest. His body was found by his wife. He reportedly left a note.
Welch, an American, was asked to join the British band from 1971 to 1974, during which he was an integral contributor and influence on three albums.
Fleetwood Mac formed in 1967. Different line-ups of the iconic rock band have been touring off and on ever since. Welch was part of the pre- Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks version of the group.
Post-Fleetwood, Welch formed the rock group Paris, and then went on to a successful solo career exploring different styles of music from rock to jazz.
And like all musicians featured in any good episode of Behind the Music, Welch struggled with, but conquered a heroine addiction in 1986.
Our condolences to his family.
