Frank Ocean is making all kinds of waves this weekend.

The “channel ORANGE” crooner sang two songs for the musical segment of the “Saturday Night Live” premiere, and the next day he dropped the video for lead single “Pyramids."

Another common thread between the SNL performance and the music video? John Mayer. Fans weren’t too fazed by the seemingly random cameo given John had a guest spot on the instrumental interlude “White” off Frank’s recent buzzworthy album.

The singer-songwriter was Frank’s right-hand man on Saturday, literally appearing to the singer’s right on stage, as the Odd Future member sang an abridged version of the album’s opus “Pyramids” and sensitive ballad “Thinkin Bout You,” the same track he performed at MTV’s 2012 Video Music Awards. Surrounded by vintage arcade video games, Frank ended his set with a sly little smirk that I’m sure is already a highly noted GIF on Tumblr.

There’s also a newly added guitar solo featuring Mayer in the video version of “Pyramids,” eight minutes of extended NSFW pole-dancing and stripper scenes that conjure the song’s desert-en-route-to-Vegas location and lyrics.

Nabil directed the video, his third with Frank following “Swim Good” and “Novacane” and employs similar drug-induced imagery, symbolism, and effects. It starts with Frank taking absinthe shots over a snippet of the song “Pink Matter,” and ends with the R&B artist stumbling in a hangover daze to “Voodoo.”

A gig on one of Saturday night’s most visible musical platforms and a video premiere would be big for any artist. With it Frank shows he’s a definite contender for the as-of-yet still unannounced “Best New Artist” category at this year’s Grammys.
