Frank Ocean gave his debut Grammy performance on Sunday night.
The R&B singer belted his new single “Forrest Gump” for the crowd at Staples Center. It was one of the most anticipated performances of the night, and Ocean didn’t disappoint—at least with giving fans a mind-bending experience.
Following the camp fire set that Ocean sat and sang in at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, the artist went with another thought-provoking experience for this set.
Standing behind a piano podium and a large backdrop, both painted white, Ocean sang motionless—projected video gave the effect that the bottom half of his body was running down a rural highway, just like Tom Hanks’ character.
Ocean missed in the category of best new artist, but took home awards for best urban contemporary album for Channel Orange and best rap/sung collaboration for “No Church in the Wild” that he collaborated on with Jay-Z, Kanye West and The-Dream.
