George Michael fans take a lyric from one of his songs and breathe…‘cause you gotta have faith.
The 49-year-old British singer has cancelled his Australian tour stops to seek much-needed treatment for crippling anxiety brought on by his battle with near-fatal pneumonia last November in Vienna.
Ever remorseful, George has taken to his website to apologize to broken hearted Aussies across the continent, writing:
"I have tried in vain to work my way through the trauma that the doctors who saved my life warned me I would experience. I'm afraid I believed (wrongly) that making music and getting out there to perform for the audiences that bring me such joy would be therapy enough in itself."
The former Wham! frontman was due to make the down under rounds in November, traveling through Perth, Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Hunter Valley, but ultimately decided he was "wrong to think I could work my way through the major anxiety that has plagued me."
He signed off the letter saying, “All that’s left for me to do is apologise to my wonderful Australian fan base…I will receive the treatment which is so long overdue.”
The “Careless Whisper”-er is brave to speak out and not keep quiet about this deeply personal ailment. George is currently nearing the end of the U.K. leg of his Symphonica Tour, which he said he’ll finish.
