Billie Joe Armstrong is reportedly recovering nicely. Following a canceled show in Bologna, Italy and a short stint in the hospital, Armstrong is all “push-ups, prayers, and vitamins,” Green Day band mate Mike Dirnt tells MTV News, just hours before their scheduled MTV Video Music Awards performance today.
“Billie came down with heavy, heavy dehydration,” Dirnt explains. “It was like severe dehydration, influenza, and it was just a really, really bad situation. He woke up in the morning and it was bad.”
“Let’s put it this way, if you’re in your hotel room and you’re vomiting profusely, it’s not fun. So what are you gonna do? It’s hard to sing while you’re puking.” I don’t know, puking while singing sounds kind of punk to me, but these guys have been in the scene for a decade or two, so let’s give them a pass.
TMZ caught up with Armstrong when he arrived at LAX on Tuesday, but could only modestly mouth to the cameras that his voice was completely shot. But we’re talking about a band that’s “maybe missed five shows out of our entire career and we pride ourselves on that,” says Dirnt.
We doubt something like a little lack of H20 will keep their music on perpetual bed rest.
