But Jay covers this month’s Rolling Stone magazine, where he gives readers a little insight into their lives as music royalty, as well as his favorite kind of music right now.
As expected, Jay-Z doesn’t talk much about Beyonce in the article, but does say she wears the pants sometimes. He recalls a recent time when he brought a Laurie Simmons piece of artwork home that depicted "a noirishly lit pistol with a pair of women's legs emerging from the handle… Beyoncé sent it back and had it replaced with a similar Simmons piece, only depicting a perfume bottle instead of a gun."
Girl knows what she wants! We wouldn’t want a huge painting of a gun on our wall either! Moving on to music, Jay talked a little bit about being the president of Def Jam records, calling it “frustrating.”
And surprisingly, he doesn’t find hip-hop to be the best in music right now. "I love the energy coming out indie rock right now," he says. "It has this rebellion thing that hip-hop is missing now, the thing that made hip-hop hip-hop."
And when Jay-Z says hip-hop is missing something, we listen! He’s constantly changing it up and keeping his sound fresh. That’s why he was nominated for 4 BET Awards!
