One of the most anticipated albums of the year is the collaboration between Jay Z and Kanye West, “Watch the Throne.” The duo teased us with a release date of July 4th weekend but now Jay-Z is just saying the album will come out “soon.”
However, some lucky music journalist were invited to a private listening party of “Watch the Throne” at the Mercer Hotel in New York hosted by Hova himself.
Jay Z sat at the rear of the hotel room balancing a MacBook Pro in his lap and played over a dozen songs off the upcoming album including some he might scrap and others to be released on his solo album.
The listening party started at 9pm and went until midnight and included an informal interview with Jay Z, “We can have a conversation. I don’t want to do an interview. Put your pads away – we can talk all night,” Jay Z told the journalists.
Fans were teased with a sample of the album when the rappers released their single, “H.A.M” but Jay Z says the album wont be as cray cray as that song, “It’s just so big and so much, you don’t want that sh-t screaming in your house.” He promises the full album will be toned down and easier to listen to. Granted I love that single, but I have to turn it off when the opera singer starts. Yah, there’s an operatic moment in a Kanye/Jay Z song.
Some things that were learned from the listening party, there’s a song that features Odd Future rapper Frank Ocean and another with Jay Z’s wife, Beyonce and maybe a song with Swizz Beatz.
