The world of hip-hop music and sports are coming together once again.
Jay-Z has added some shows in his hometown during his tour. The Brooklyn-native will open the Barclays Center on September 28, and is to follow the set up with two back-to-back appearances on the 29th and the 30th. Count 'em... That's 1-2-3 more shows in Brooklyn!
According to the New York Times, the additional dates will open up 7,000 seats for fans at bargain prices under $30.
“Jay-Z is the definitive artist to open Barclays Center,” said arena CEO Brett Yormark. “We are thrilled that such an iconic world-class entertainer, not to mention a Brooklynite, will take the borough’s biggest stage on three consecutive nights for what will surely be a historic experience for all fans.”
The rapper’s ties to the team run deep. Jay-Z co-owns the Brooklyn Nets with Mikhail Prokhorov. In addition to the part ownership, the rapper opened 40/40 Club within the near 19,000-seat venue.
At the conclusion of the 2011-12 season, the Nets moved from New Jersey to Brooklyn where they’ll share the city with the New York Knicks. And, as of Jay-Z’s September concert, the new Barclay Center will officially be open for business.
Jay-Z’s Live Nation will produce the three Barclay Center shows.
According to New York’s Daily News, the reason that ticket prices are so low is because Jay-Z can dictate how much he can charge for the event. Yorkmark told the source that the rapper is dedicated to not only his fans, but to his city too.
“This shows how committed he is to Brooklyn,” he said.
