Stand down, Energizer Bunny… Jay-Z is taking over battery promotion.
The rapper mogul is blasting into the marketplace being featured on a brand new commercial. The ad is for Duracell’s new product, the 24-hour Powermat system and Jay-Z appears in true Hov class.
In the commercial, a man looks over New York City from the balcony of his apartment. Then, it’s product placement time!
The man picks up his phone off the power system, which is basically a pad that you set your smartphone on to charge.
Jay-Z and Rihanna’s song “Run This Town” cuts in as the man moves through the city, in black and white. The only color of the commercial are graphic drawn batteries – either yellow or red – of his fellow citizens.
Only the man’s battery remains green throughout the full commercial… Go figure.
“We gonna run this town tonight,” Rihanna sings, referring now to Duracell’s mega-power boost.
“A 24-hour system needs 24-hour power,” the add reads, referring to Jay-Z’s hometown.
Day moves to night as the man goes from café, to sidewalk, to pub, to cab, to club… All the while his battery life remains at full force.
As the songs diminuendos, the man is on a couch at the club, surrounded by friends. A phone rings on the Powermat. Thinking its his, the man picks it up and the incoming call is from “B.”
The camera cuts back to reveal an extended hand of another man asking for his phone back. That hand belongs to Jay-Z himself…
“Oh,” the man says. “Yeah,” the rapper replies.
According to a press release from the Duracell, Jay-Z has fitted his new club with Powermats for patrons to charge up on. The company is thrilled to have the artist onboard for his “capability to mobilize and speak to a technology-savvy generation.”
"I believe in the future of wireless energy and I believe that Duracell Powermat is the company to bring on the revolution,” Jay-Z said in a statement. “I'm partnering with Duracell Powermat because they're providing the solutions for the future."
